acid at its best ::::
This is kind of a half post. Although it can stand alone, my accompanying upcoming post on my amaretto apple sour cocktail is even better. This homemade sweet and sour mix is versatile in many different cocktails, obviously. My amaretto drink creation, however, was contingent on some sweet and sour flavors, and the store-bought (and corn-syrupy stuff) wasn’t going to cut it. This sweet-and-sour mix recipe is very versatile and makes extra: besides cocktails, it mixes well in seltzer water for a fizzy lemonade. Spike your seltzer with a little floral syrup, like lavender or rose, for a fancier lemonade.

Ingredients
- 3 cups water
- 3 cups sugar
- 2 cups lemon juice
- 2 cups lime juice
Instructions
- Mix water and sugar over medium heat to dissolve. Bring to boil, then cool to room temperature.
- Mix cooled simple syrup with lemon and lime juices. (I strained my freshly squeezed juices before adding to the simple syrup.) Chill until cold.
- Keeps for a week in the fridge. Prep time includes chilling time.
Notes
This makes a lot of extra. I like to use it mixed in cocktails or as a base for a fizzy lemonade when mixed with seltzer.
